"I come from Surrey and felt university was a good excuse to get far away from home. As soon as I set foot on the campus, seeing the Wallace Monument on one side of me, and Dumyat Hill on the other, split by the Uni loch and castle, I fell in love with the surroundings.

The Uni has many facilities that keep campus life interesting. With bars, cafés, shops, a cinema and theatre, it’s quite easy to live on campus, only venturing into the city for nightclubs and the supermarket. Living in Halls is a great way to meet people. It adds variety since not everyone you live with will be doing the same degree as you.

The Uni is very sport-orientated, and with a well-equipped sports centre, it provides many sport clubs, making life more than just studying. Fencing and Urban Dance are two clubs I’m part of that make good use of these facilities. Along with sports clubs are other societies I’ve joined that are excellent to be involved in, such as the Conservation Volunteers and Sign Language Society.

Stirling is full of history so it’s almost impossible to live here without visiting somewhere historic. The Wallace Monument is an excellent place to start, with information on William Wallace and an amazing view of Stirling. Not only is Stirling an historic city, but it is also surrounded by natural beauty. On reaching the top of Dumyat you can bathe in awe-inspiring views over the surrounding land, separating yourself from the hustle of daily life.

The City of Stirling also has a good selection of restaurants ranging from Chinese to Mexican, and most of the bars are geared towards students, giving discounts and deals here and there. Everything is within walking distance once you’re in the city, making it easier to have a change of scenery on a night out.

Travelling from Stirling is easy; with regular buses and trains you can get to places like Edinburgh and Glasgow fairly quickly. I’d recommend the Edinburgh Street Festival for anyone who wants to celebrate the New Year with a huge party."
