The table below is a guide to the grades you will typically need and the subjects you will have to have studied to gain entrance to study a particular subject at the University of Stirling.

The University will continue to express offers in terms of A-level grades. The University does not use the UCAS Tariff scheme at this point in time.

Offers will normally be made on a basis equal to three A-levels, although all applications will be considered individually and offers may be given with less.

If you have a mix of ASs and A-levels (A2), we may be able to frame our offer in light of the AS grades already achieved. Any offer will have a minimum of two A-levels requested..

Entrance requirements for 2009 entry - A levels

Education	Levels of offer are normally those associated with the entry requirements of the chosen teaching subject(s). Also required: English Language and English Literature GCSE grade C. In addition Maths at GCSE grade C for Primary Education.	Available only if teaching subject(s) permit this. Year two entry with two teaching subjects is rarely available.
English as a Foreign Language English Language Teaching	Entry to this course is for non-native English speakers only. A full range of international qualifications is considered.

Environmental Science	CCD Grades to include one of Geography, Geology, Environmental Science/ Studies, Biology, Physics, Chemistry or Maths grade D or equivalent. Environmental Science and Outdoor Education	CCD Grades to include one of Geography, Geology, Environmental Science, Biology, Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics grade D or equivalent. Also required: English GCSE grade C, Maths GCSE grade C or equivalent. Minimum age of 18 at start of course.	Direct entry to year two is possible subject to approval of individual qualifications.
European Film & Media	BBC A modern language at grade C or equivalent required if taken at Advanced level. Beginners’ level language courses are also available in French or Spanish either as the main language of study or as an optional second language for up to three semesters. Applicants are strongly advised to gain pre-application experience with their local media. Also required: English GCSE C or equivalent.
European Social Policy	CCC French or Spanish at grade C or equivalent required if taken at Advanced level. Beginners’ level language courses are also available. Also required: English GCSE grade C.	BBB Grades to include; Sociology, Politics & Government, and one of French or Spanish.
Film & Media	BBC Also required: English GCSE grade C or equivalent. Applicants are strongly advised to gain pre-application experience with their local media and it may count against their application if this is not displayed.

Money, Banking & Finance	CCC Also required: English GCSE grade C, Maths GCSE grade C or equivalent.
Nursing	Minimum of five passes at GCSE English Language and Literature (grades A-C) or equivalent. Maths is also preferred. Preference will be given to candidates who have A-level passes; or an acceptable Access course; or an HNC/HND.
Philosophy	CCC Also required: English GCSE grade C or equivalent.
Physical Education and Professional education	BCC Also required: English Language and Literature grade C or equivalent.	Advanced entry onto this programme is not possible.
