Campus Life

Support and Wellbeing

People with Disabilities

female student We welcome applications from all students and provide services for students with disabilities to enable full participation in university life. Students with a range of disabilities successfully undertake courses at Stirling.

Before you arrive

We have no wish to put pressure on you to tell us about any disability, but it can help you if you let us know. Where a disability is disclosed, the University will:

  • do all it can to arrange appropriate advice and provision
  • ensure that there is no discrimination of any kind, either in admissions or during your university career

Campus facilities

It helps if we know in advance about your disability so we can advise on our services and facilities, and so that you can assess whether they are right for you. Although most areas of the campus are accessible to wheelchair users, and some accommodation has specially adapted facilities, a pre-entry visit is strongly recommended if you have any mobility difficulties. A Campus Access Map is available on request from Student Development and Support Services.

Academic support

For academic work there is a range of services and information technology, including:

  • support workers or personal learning assistants
  • a dedicated computing facility located within the residence area of campus
  • infra-red technology in all lecture theatres for those with hearing impairments

Any specific arrangements you need can be discussed initially with Student Development and Support Services. They can advise on adjustments or support provision to enable you to fully enjoy your studies and life on campus, and on possible funding for specialist equipment or services.
