Postgraduate Study
Student Viewpoints

I have the freedom to organise my own time and the opportunity to travel to meet and work alongside fellow scientists in the UK and abroad.

'Just before completing my undergraduate degree here at Stirling, I found myself faced with a difficult decision – do I find work or continue into further study? Both options had appealing prospects, however, when the chance arose to continue my studies here at Stirling, my mind was made up. After all, how could I turn down the opportunity of spending another few years here!
Stirling University has so much to offer prospective students. I very much doubt any other university can boast such an awe inspiring location and the sporting facilities are second to none, offering an array of clubs and activities to suit everyone.
The Library, Career Development Centre and Students’ Union are all run by very friendly people who have always gone out of their way to help me. And of course the City of Stirling is a stone’s throw away, where you can enjoy the range of shops, restaurants and nightlife.
At the moment I am in the second year of my research degree, and although it took a while to settle in to how different life is as a postgraduate student, things were made much easier by the staff and other students within the School. Choosing to pursue a postgraduate degree has been a natural progression for me, and I know I made the right choice staying at Stirling. I have the freedom to organise my own time and the opportunity to travel to meet and work alongside fellow scientists in the UK and abroad. In addition to this I can attend conferences where I can present and discuss my own research. It can be lonely at times and also quite exhausting, but attending training courses and seminars help keep me motivated and of course regular coffee breaks provide ample opportunity to discuss all things non-academic!'
