A University of Stirling postgraduate qualification improves your chances of employment. Over the last decade, postgraduates have been significantly less likely to be unemployed. More and more employers are seeking the enhanced skills that postgraduate students have, allowing them to enter a wide range of career sectors.
We know that a postgraduate qualification alone is not enough to impress prospective employers.
Alongside academic achievement, employers are also looking for transferable skills, appropriate personal qualities and relevant work experience. In particular, they like to see:
At Stirling, we know how important it is that you complement your academic study/research by developing these transferable skills. That is why we offer you the chance to take part in:
If you have come to Stirling from outside the UK, you can apply to stay and work in the UK for up to two years after you are awarded your qualification, under the new points-based immigration system.
Throughout the year we offer you activities that help with your job application and interview skills, including information sessions to help you complete your immigration application.
Our Career Development Centre (CDC) provides resources that can help you make informed career decisions, pursue your goals effectively and develop skills that will help you manage your career throughout your life.
Additionally, postgraduate students are offered a range of tailored sessions on Career Planning from within their Department, or as part of the Stirling Graduate Research School programme.
The Career Development Centre is situated in room 3A1 of the Cottrell Building and is open Monday to Friday between 9am – 5pm (with the exception of Thursdays when it opens at 10am).
